Job Opportunity at SKUAST-Kashmir: Senior Research
Job Opportunity at SKUAST-Kashmir: Senior Research Fellow under Agri-Excellence Project (Salary ₹49,560)
Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) has once again opened its doors for passionate researchers through an exciting opportunity under a government-sponsored research initiative. The university has announced a Senior Research Fellow (SRF) position as part of the prestigious Agri-Excellence Project funded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India. This project, titled “Application of Electronics and ICT in Himalayan Region Crop Management (Agri-Excellence)”, aims to revolutionize the agricultural practices of the Himalayan region through advanced technology and innovation. Under this initiative, researchers will explore how Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics, and electronic systems can transform traditional farming into more efficient, data-driven, and sustainable methods.
About the Project
Agriculture remains the backbone of Jammu and Kashmir’s economy, and SKUAST-K has consistently been at the forefront of bringing modern scientific innovation to local farming. The Agri-Excellence Project focuses on integrating electronics, sensors, and ICT tools to enhance crop productivity and efficiency, especially for high-value crops like saffron, which is an integral part of Kashmir’s cultural and economic heritage.
The project particularly emphasizes the development of an Agri-bot (agricultural robot) for weed management in saffron fields—a task that is both labor-intensive and time-consuming when done manually. By introducing automation in saffron cultivation, the project aims to reduce workload, minimize errors, and increase yield.
This initiative also aligns with the broader national goal of Digital Agriculture, encouraging innovation-driven research and entrepreneurship in the agri-tech sector.
